If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what's a video worth? It doesn't really matter, of course. Regardless of which you include in your forum posts, make sure the images and videos you use are the very best available and that all media is titled, tagged, and properly described (where available).
Again, We're Talking Searchability
Not only are your forum posts searchable. All images and videos inside your posts are also searchable. However, what makes them searchable are their titles, tags, and descriptions.
In the sample image above, note the title: "Easy Co. 506th PIR | Alone and Cold on Foy".
Any combination of the title words may result in the image coming up in a search. The image is also linked to this page. Linking an image (or video) is done by first clicking on the image and then clicking the link icon. In the pop-up, add your link. If you link back to your post, check the no-follow box for Google.
Linking your image to the post in which it is found is a great way to help searchers find the post. Be sure to include a title and tags related to the topic of your forum post.
Also, you cannot link a forum post image back to the post in which the image is found unless you first publish your post. Once published, navigate to the post, copy the link in the browser, then follow the directions above to add your link to the image. Then, when someone finds the image and clicks on it, they will arrive at the post.
Tags are used to include keywords not found in your title. For example, two tags used in the sample image title are "Hell Let Loose" and "HLL".
To add a title and/or tags to your images or videos, click on the media, and then click the gear icon in the pop-up panel, as shown. The options to include a title and tags will appear in a new panel on the right. Clear, specific titles are best. Keep both titles and tags relevant to the topic of your post.
Doing More with Less as a Rule
I'm a big fan of doing as much as possible with what little I have. It's just another kind of game, really. And like any game, it's a game you want to win. A lot of forum posts do not need this kind of attention. But if you have a great idea, pull out all the stops on your forum post. Leave nothing for later. Do everything while you are inspired and while your energy is high. A great post will pay you back many times over.
Now, let's talk about forum admins and moderators and how they help protect your brand. If you have any questions or comments regarding what's been said so far, please post them in the comments below. Let's get these forums started out on the right foot.
